Brookdale Recreation Center serves up dinner Event to raise funds for city youth programs Posted in the Oakland Tribune on Sunday, December 4, 2005 Written by Staff Writers Oakland Brookdale Recreation Center is hosting a chicken and spaghetti fund raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7. to support city youth programs. Oakland Fire Chief Daniel Farrell will be the chef for the chicken, pasta and salad to be served at the center, 2535 High St. Tickets are $25 each. Space is limited. RSVP no later than Monday by email or phone to Jose Ortiz, 867-5372, or jortiz@oaklandnet.com. Make checks payable to OPR-Brookdale. The evening's special guest is Julius Melendez, a trumpet player who performs with Carlos Santana. Speakers include Farrell, Councilmember Jean Quan, and Audree Jones-Taylor, director of the city Department of Parks and Recreation. Former Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris, now the Peralta College chancellor, will open the ceremony. Ortiz, the center's program director, will be the master of ceremonies.
