Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum
Sixty-six paintings, sculptures and photograhs, including 11 by California artists, highlights more than 200 years of Latino art from across the United States. The works shown represent the many cultural traditions developed by mostly Spanish-speaking artists who have settled in America. Although most of the work is contemporary (from 1950 through the '90s), earlier work from colonial eras and the early 20th century is included to provide context and reference points. Arte Latino is one of eight exhibitions that the Smithsonian's American Art Museum is traveling while the museum undergoes remodeling.
