California's Closet: From Flappers to Rappers
This exhibit demonstrates how California's cultual diversity, entertainment industry and leisure lifestyle have had a major impact on clothing developed in our state in the 20th century. On display will be exceptional pieces from costume collections of the Oakland Museum of California, the state's closet: from trousseau lingerie designed by Gump's c. 1940 to decorated "hippie style" jeans and shirts; from the allure of a dress by Hollywood film designer Adrian to the James Galanos couture for Nancy Reagan.

Family Bridges Fundraising Dinner
Family Bridges will hold their annual dinner fundraiser to incluce fine dining, dancing, and a raffle for a new car of your choice valued at $30,000. The Family Bridges fundraiser will benefit the centers that work in collaboration with the organization. Tickets for the dinner are $165 and raffle tickets are $100. Need not be present to win.

Read Aloud Day
Join HEROES, the Oakland Unified School District, and the Oakland Education Association (OEA) on March 3rd for the 9th Annual Read Across America/Read Aloud Day! This event celebrates Dr. Seuss's birthday while encouraging reading among youth. HEROES is recruiting volunteers to read to children for half an hour (or more) in one (or more) K-3 grade classrooms in Oakland. Read at one, two or all three times!! Reading times will be 9:30 - 10:00 am, 10:00 - 10:30 am, and 10:30 - 11:00 am on March 3rd, 2003.

Women In Emergency Work
Panel discussion will explore the roles of women as emergency workers. Participants include photographer Maggie Hallahan, whose work is in the exhibition State of Emergency: Disaster Response in California, a female firefighter, a search-and-rescue dog handler, and a staff member of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services in Sacramento.

The Academy Gala
Enjoy the 75th Annual Academy Awards which will be telecast at the beautiful Paramount Theatre in downtown Oakland.
