Calendar of Events July 2004 July 1 ~ July 31 National Recreation & Parks Month Come Play the OPR Way! Join the City of Oakland, Office of Parks and Recreation (OPR) in a month long celebration which begins with a special information fair, open house and ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of National Recreation & Parks Month; followed by a special event every day of the month at participating community and recreation centers, beginning July 1 and ending July 31, 2004. For more info please call (510) 238-7275 July 1 ~ August 29 Henry J. Kaiser: Think Big Exhibition on the life and times of Henry J. Kaiser (1882 - 1967), one of the most influential individuals in modern California. The exhibition surveys the global reach of his industrial ventures, building the great dams of the West, shipbuilding, automobile and transportation projects, and America’s largest not-for-profit health care system, Kaiser Permanente, and his impact on the modern economic and cultural landscape. The Henry J. Kaiser exhibit is on view from March 1 through August 29, 2004 and is included with museum admission fees. Photographs, artifacts and oral histories explore Korean heritage, culture and immigration experience. Organized by the museum and members of the East Bay Korean community. Oakland Museum of California, Museum Gardens Info: (510) 238-2200, www.museumca.org July 2 National Recreation & Parks Month Informative Booths in the Plaza & Open House at the Dalziel Building In commemoration of National Recreation and Parks Month, the Oakland Parks & Recreation department will exhibit a variety of our community programs, host informative booths, and provide interactive games at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza on Friday, July 2, 2004 from 11:00 am ~ 2:00 pm. The open house and official ribbon cutting ceremony will be presided over by the City Manager Deborah Edgerly and Parks & Recreation Director Audree Jones-Taylor at 1:30 pm at 250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Suite 3330 in Oakland. We welcome everyone to visit our new offices located at the Dalziel Building. Come check out the latest boating and marine sports offered through the Lake Merritt Boating Center and Jack London Aquatics Center, enjoy a friendly game of Ping Pong or Bid Whist or create original works of art with Studio One Art Center.
