Boating Safety Safety First! Boating Safety is our #1 Priority The Lake Merritt Boating Center (LMBC) is committed to making boating and water safety our number one focus while providing educational and recreational opportunities. Thanks to generous grants from the State of California's Department of Boating and Waterways and various other organizations, the LMBC is able to continue to expand and improve its high quality boating programs. Educational materials are readily available to the community, so drop by the Lake Merritt Boating Center today!
A major component of our programs is instructing students in water safety and the importance of lifejackets or personal floatation devices (PFDs). PFDs are provided for student and staff use and are required to be worn at all times when students are near deep water, on docks, or on boats. Prior to approaching hte water, students are taught how to properly wear PFDs and the PFD fit is checked by instructors.
