About Our Conductors
Oakland Civic Orchestra, Established in 1997

Martha Stoddard, Artistic Director is beginning her eleventh season with the Oakland Civic Orchestra. She is a member of the San Francisco Composers' Chamber Orchestra and performs as a flutist in "Chambermix" Ms. Stoddard has taught instrumental music at Lick- Wilmerding High School since 1991. Additional conducting credits include the 2007 premiere of Lisa Proseks' Opera Belfagor, at the Thick House in San Francisco, Guest Conductor for the 2006 San Francisco All-City High School Festival Orchestra, Schwungvoll! New Music Ensemble, Community Women's Orchestra, El Camino Youth Symphony Flute Ensembles, Palo Alto Symphony, UCSF Orchestra, Humboldt Symphony, Oakland Symphony Chorus, Golden Gate Men's Chorus and the Berkeley Singers.

In the summer of 2007, she served as conductor for the Santa Rosa Symphony Summer Academy Orchestra and Chamber Winds, and participated in the Rose City Chamber Orchestra Conducting Workshop as an Emerging Artist. She has adjudicated concerto competitions for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Santa Cruz Youth Symphony.

Kate McLoughlin, Assistant Conductor, is returning for her second season with the Oakland Civic Orchestra. She completed a master's degree in orchestral conducting at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) in 2004. A native of Vermont, she completed undergraduate work in bassoon performance and music theory(also at McGill) and obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in June of 2002. As guest conductor, Ms. McLoughlin has appeared with the McGill Symphony Orchestra, the Savoy Society of Montreal, and L' Harmonie nationale des juenes du Canada. In addition to her position with the Oakland Civic Orchestra, Kate is the manager and assistant conductor of the Berkeley Youth Orchestra and works in the office of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players.
