Community Gardening Volunteer Opportunities Coordinator: Josh Amaris 250 Frank Ogawa Plaza, Suite 3330, Oakland, CA 94612 Phone (510) 238-2197 jamaris@oaklandnet.com Many Oakland residents already know that the Lakeside Gardens are a lovely destination for an informative and relaxing afternoon. The Gardens contain an extensive variety of botanical curiosities. On weekends, there are horticultural workshops and exquisite flower shows for every gardening interest imaginable. Volunteering with the City of Oakland Community Gardening program is a great way to get involved with your community and meet people. There are numerous ways to do this. There are five regularly scheduled volunteer days every month occurring on Saturdays. These volunteer days correspond with when gardeners meet monthly at the gardens to work on community spaces and projects. Simply show up and lend a hand if you would like. There will be someone at each of these days to sign off on service hours. See list below. Larger groups of volunteers looking to work on a more substantial project are also welcome. Contact the program coordinator to set these events up. To ensure that the volunteer experience is as successful as possible, the program coordinator will work with you picking an appropriate project and site, helping plan, coordinating tools, organizing educational talks, and more.
