Bicycle Safety Helmet Program

Teaching the Importance of Helmets
The primary goal of the Bicycle Safety Helmet Program (BSHP) is to promote bicycle safety, increase bicycle helmet usage, and to reduce the number of accidents involving children in Oakland. In this program youth will learn self-esteem, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Program Schedule Program Requirements
Day 1 Reading and writing of bicycle safety materials. Ages: 5~10

Must complete 5 hours of community service within 1 week of the program start date.

Youth cannot miss more than 1 day, while participating in the program.

All participants are expected to treat each other with fairness, dignity and respect.
Day 2 Youth will view bicycle safety videos and have group discussions about bicycle safety.
Day 3 Concentrate on working on activity books.
Day 4 Sizing of helmets for participants
Day 5 Participants receive a certificate of completion, a safety helmet, and promotional materials provided by the program.

The Bicycle Safety Helmet Program (BSHP) provides children and youth, ages 5 - 10 years, an opportunity to earn a safety helmet, t-shirt, certificate of completion, and promotional materials. In order to complete the program youth must complete 5 hours of the program by learning about bicycle safety. The BSHP is a one week program and operates Monday through Friday from 3:30 pm ~ 4:30 pm.
