Celebrating Diversity & Promoting Accessibility
The City of Oakland, Office of Parks and Recreation is working with new and pre-existing programs, classes and activities to provide accommodations for all individuals and groups that would like to participate in any of our city-wide programs. Inclusive programs and initiatives help to enhance the quality of life for Oakland’s diverse population, by providing opportunities for activities that are often taken for granted by those who do not have special needs or physical and/or mental limitations.

Computer Lab - Adults
Ages 18 +
Friday from 10:00 am ~ 1:00 pm
Discover a virtually unlimited source of information on the World Wide Web. Instruction includes how to use search engines, save and retrieve favorites, and how to set up your own Email account so that you can join informational mailing lists and keep in touch with the people you know.

Computer Lab - Youth
Ages 7 ~ 12
Wednesday from 3:30 ~ 4:30 pm
This class is designed for kids who have special needs and little or no experience using computers. Instruction includes how to use search engines, save and retrieve favorites, and have fun in the cyberspace.

Cooking
Ages 7 ~ 14
Wednesday from 3:30 pm ~ 5:00 pm
This is the perfect opportunity for the participants to learn basic cooking skills, how to operate appliances, measure ingredients and much much more. The students will not only learn to cook and operate appliances, they will also receive valuable instruction on kitchen safety and learn to have fun in the kitchen while creating delicious and nutritious meals. Meals will be eaten at the end of each class and will range from simple to complex recipes.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Ages 6 ~ 12
Monday ~ Friday from 12:00 ~ 5:00 pm
Program features specialized and integrated programs provided by deaf and hearing teachers who are fluent in sign language.

Internet Tutorial
Ages 9 ~ 12
Monday from 4:00 pm ~ 4:45 pm
Experience the exciting and unlimited resource that the internet provides. Learn to navigate the internet in this fun and informative class.

Middle School Activities
Ages 12 ~ 15
Monday ~ Friday from 3:00 pm ~ 5:00 pm
Middle school youth with disabilities receive staff support to participate in inclusive activities with non-disabled youth including: homework assistance, sports, and arts activities. MSAC starts at 2:30 pm on Wednesdays for students who have minimum days.

Special Olympics Softball - Adult
Ages 18 +
Thursday from 6:00 pm ~ 7:30 pm
Two softball teams for persons with disabilities to play in this year's Special Olympics will be formed. Teams will be competing at different divisional levels, so that athletes will play with others of similar abilities.

Special Olympics Softball - Youth
Ages 6 ~ 17
Tuesday from 6:00 pm ~ 7:30 pm
This is a great opportunity to get kids exposed to sports with others that have similar disabilities. In this class children will learn the basic fundamentals of softball and be given the chance to participate in the Special Olympics. Please note: practice will occur at Marshall Elementary School in Oakland.
