Oakland Fine Arts Summer School 2009 (OFASS) is a successful artistic collaboration between the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) morning arts program and the City of Oakland, Office of Parks and Recreation (OPR) afternoon art studios sessions. OFASS offers arts programming for students currently enrolled and attending Kindergarten through 5th grade as of April 2009. OPR/OFASS is a comprehensive and cumulative program, which requires an absolute afternoon attendance commitment from students and families. We cannot accommodate partial participation. Free Lunch program is offered for all attending students.

This year’s theme is "Arts Around the World in 19 Days." As an arts intensive program, students at all artistic levels will be examining and interpreting the arts from around the world through visual arts, music, dance, theatre, set design, architecture. For a total experience of the Arts, each group of students (K-1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-5th grades) is assigned a rotation of interdisciplinary arts, which can include a combination of Visual, Performance, Theatrical and Literary Arts.

OFASS is a proven program that is not only artistically rewarding, but also fun! The OPR/OFASS Art Studios offers students the opportunity to work and learn alongside accomplished professional artists in diverse studio settings. Artist to student ratio is low, allowing for individual attention. Our staff represents and celebrates the diversity of our greater Bay Area arts community. We believe in and practice kindness, tolerance, acceptance, integrity, knowledge and humor through the arts.

OFASS 2009 will hold an off-site final performance and exhibit on Thursday, July 16th. We will also continue our successful public visual arts exhibit collaborations with Studio One and the City of Oakland’s Art and Soul Festival on Labor Day weekend.
